BTS's 'Yet To Come' MV: Symbols of Transformation and Progression

The setting of the MV itself tells us a lot about it. The hilly background could be a parallel to the ON MV. Only, the ON MV starts in a setting filled with greenery and beautiful hills and stuff and transitions to a rocky mountain with very little grass growing on it. At the end of that MV, the members (especially Jungkook) are running towards something- a dream that they’re chasing. “Was it honestly the best” implies that they still haven’t reached their peak which they later clarify by saying “Yeah my best is yet to come” and then for a second you see a car driving down the desert which reiterates the fact that they’re not done and they’re still driving towards the same dream that they were running towards in the ON MV- and the path has gotten rockier, but they still keep going because they are now better equipped to tread on it.

Then again at the start of the MV you see them positioned in the same formation as in Just One Day. Just One Day was a song about wanting to spend only one day with a person they loved but couldn’t have, and throughout the song they talk about what they would do if they were given that one day. But then this song starts with “Was it honestly the best? ‘Cause I just wanna see the next…” and I’m probably overthinking this but if we try to relate that with Just One Day, then maybe they’re looking back at it and thinking that even if they had gotten that one day, whatever they did with it would not have been the best they could ever do because the voracious ambition of human beings is never sated by their desires coming true. Even if they’d gotten their one day, they’d still keep wanting a next time where they could do it differently and better.

Then there’s V picking up a rose and smelling it just like he did in Singularity. Now Singularity mainly revolved around the themes of isolation within love and watching that love fall apart. In Yet To Come, Taehyung smells the rose and looks contentedly at everything as if reminiscing something- and immediately after that we hear the line “We just loved music, we’re just running forward…” which could mean that now when they put their heart and soul into just music, they no longer feel isolated in love because love for music can’t just fall apart like the kind of love they were talking about in Singularity did.

When Jungkook curls his fingers and places it on his eye to look like a telescope, the same thing happened at the start of DNA. When that happens in DNA, he sees inside of himself which probably means that the DNA era was a time when the boys were still figuring themselves out. Now they are clear about who they are and what they want with life, which is why this time he sees himself along with all the members exactly as they are while he reflects on where they are right now and how far they’ve come.

The most prominent flashback that we get in this MV is the Ferris wheel from Spring Day. When you see this in the Spring Day mv, Jungkook's expression is wistful and longing, and he craves something that is currently out of his reach. When you see it in Yet To Come, his expression is confident and unwavering- he still wants something that he has not yet attained but he now recognises that it is not unattainable and he is no longer looking at it from a distance, he accepts that his moment has not yet come and he is determined to work towards attaining it.

We also see the angel statue from Blood Sweat and Tears later in the mv. In BST, the statue alludes to the fallen angel Lucifer from the Bible, so Jin kissing the statue symbolizes being drawn to sin. However, in Yet To Come, he is able to sit on his stationary car and look the statue in the eye with no indication of any temptation whatsoever which shows the immense emotional growth on his part. They’re saying that every time they stop, there is always the possibility of going down the wrong path, but they have come far enough to have gotten past the point where the constant temptation of taking that path exists.

The part where Jin covers and opens Tae's eyes is just their roles reversed from Blood Sweat and Tears where Tae covers Jin's eyes and both times it symbolizes the loss of innocence of the boys and how they finally see the world for what it is.

The school bus that they see after Jin uncovers Tae's eyes is definitely from No More Dream, their debut single which could again signify how far they've come from there.

Then after that you see V making a hand sign like a camera and holds it around his eye as if clicking an imaginary picture. That is a parallel to Jin doing the same thing in Blood Sweat and Tears.

At the end of the MV, we see Jungkook sitting inside the bus which is a parallel to him sitting inside the train in Spring Day. But here, he looks a lot more contented than he did in the Spring Day mv because then, he was sitting in the train and missing someone he's probably never going to see again. But here, Jungkook looks around and smiles. And then the camera zooms out slowly showing RM and V in the seat in front of him, and then slowly shows all the other members. Because now, Jungkook has put his past behind him and is focusing on the people he still has, and has learnt to move past the people who have left him.
